Elder/Sister Cloie Funderburg Walker Logan’s humble beginning started in Wilmington, NC.

She attended and graduated from Williston Sr. High School with a College Preparatory Diploma. During the graduation ceremony she was awarded several scholarships (A&T College, currently named North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University; Hampton College, currently named Hampton University; and Berklee School of Music, currently named Berklee College of Music). She chose to study at Berklee in Boston, MA, which was a School of Jazz and Quincy Jones’ alma mater. Later she attended the Main Line Conservatory of Music in Bryn Mawr, PA. She’s also a graduate of Lake Michigan College; and attended Western Michigan University majoring in Elementary Education.

At age 23, and after having catastrophic/life shattering experiences, Cloie began to miss the relationship she had with God as a young person. The Holy Spirit began wooing her back to Him as He had already divinely chosen two Bible Instructors that would study the Bible with her. At age 24, Elder Paul Cantrell, Pastor of the North Philadelphia SDA Church in Philadelphia, PA, at that time, baptized her. â€‹

Two years later, Elder Charles D. Brooks traveled to Philadelphia, PA, after accepting the request of Allegheny East Conference President, to be the Evangelist and Facilitator of the 1971 Philadelphia City-Wide evangelistic meeting during that summer.  She met Brother Lawrence LeRoy Logan, who was the hired musician for that evangelistic meeting.

After a month of her trying to avoid him, he became her best friend.

In October 1971, she married her best friend. In 1973, Elder Charles D. Brooks accepted the request of Lake Region Conference President (Elder Jessie Wagner) to be the Evangelist and Facilitator of the 1973 Chicago City-Wide evangelistic meeting during that summer. The Logans accepted Elder Brooks’ request to join him in Chicago to be musicians and Bible Instructors. The Logans quit their jobs where they were hired in Newport News, VA, and headed for Chicago. As a consequence, the Strafford Memorial SDA Church of Chicago, IL was formed, where she and LeRoy served as musicians and Bible Instructors.

Later, the couple was hired by President Wagner and LRC Executive Committee to be Bible Instructors and Musicians working in Evangelism for the LRC 5-state area. For at least 5 years, the Logans worked alongside Elder Robert C. Connor, Evangelist, and the “Christ is the Answer Crusade” team and hundreds were baptized.

Sister Logan was given the opportunity to represent Lake Region Conference on a recording for “Breath of Life”, entitled “Breath Of Life, Take II”. Cloie recorded two songs, “Change My Name’ and “I Fell On My Knees And Cried Holy.”

God blessed this union with two wonderful and handsome sons: Lloyd Joseph and Paul David.

After 51 years of marriage, her best friend, Pastor Lawrence L. Logan, passed on May 28, 2023, at the age of 88.

Sister Logan is currently a member of one of the churches her husband was honored and proud to have pastored in Indianapolis, IN: the Haughville SDA Praise and Worship Center, where Pastor Henoc Paulicin is the current Pastor.

One of Elder Logan’s favorite Bible text: “I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me; let us exalt His name together.”  Psalm 34:1-3

Reflection: Some of my experiences, since choosing to surrender entirely to Christ at age 23, have not been happy and/or comfortable. But as I reflect:  all of my good days outweighed my bad days …. I choose NOT to complain.
