George Powell, a native of Austin, Texas, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Huston-Tillotson University, an HBCU. He serves as the Worship Pastor of Fallbrook Church in Houston, Texas with a membership of over 8,000. He has served as the Minister of Music at Alpha Seventh-day Adventist Church in Austin, Texas for over 25 years and the Assistant Minister of Music for World Harvest Outreach Seventh-day Adventist Church in Houston, Texas for 9 years.

George is best known for his George Floyd arrangement of the song “A Change Is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke. The song went viral on Facebook with over 3 million views and 100,000 shares on all social media platforms and has garnered wide online reception.
​
One of the highlights of his career was performing for President Barack Obama at the Austin, Texas rally that attracted 20,000 supporters. He proudly remembers the “shout-out” the first African American President gave him during his opening comments, thanking George Powell for his performance.
George is featured on the CD compilation “Earnest Pugh Presents Gospel’s Rising Stars” which received a 2015 Stellar Award nomination. George is the featured lead on the self-composed song, “Great is The Lord”.
George Powell has released several recording projects including one live recording “The Music of My Life” in 2010, a Christmas CD “Christmas with George Powell” in December 2015 featuring the soul-stirring ballad, “The Greatest Gift of All” along with a rendition of “The Little Drummer Boy” that is surely listener’s favorite. He also released a Christmas EP “A Gospel Christmas” in 2019 featuring several timeless Christmas renditions including “Go Tell It On The Mountain”, “Mary Did You Know” & his original arrangement of “Joy To The World”.

George has led performances of the National Anthem for the Houston Rockets, the Houston Astros and the National Battle of the Bands at NRG Texans Stadium.

In February 2024, George released a Black History Month EP entitled “Songs of the Struggle” featuring his renditions of the popular songs “Change Is Gonna Come”, “Lift Every Voice & Sing”, “Glory” and "Higher Ground."
​
George’s newest single entitled “Grace” was released in November 2024. His Christmas Single, "The Greatest Gift of All" reached Top Ten on The National Gospel Music Holiday Radio charts. His music is available on all digital music outlets.
